Lori Lynn Baur - May 16, 2011

I first came to know Lori through her husband, Fredi Meli – an excellent bass-player for the band The Blacktails (a line-up that includes friends Peter Farrell and David Blacker). Eventually, Lori and I worked together on some tracks during the production of the 2006 “Christmas Sessions” CD.

Lori – a singer and writer – focused her life’s efforts on kindness and caring. . .be it for the environment, animals or her fellow human-beings. She applied her passion to her work and became a master’s level music therapist after receiving her M.A. in music therapy from New York University. Despite her near decade-long battle with cancer, she managed to remain remarkably giving, upbeat and active.

Here is Lori telling her story:

Lori lost her battle with cancer on February 19, 2011 – just over 5 months shy of her 42nd birthday.

This past Saturday, friends and family of Lori Lynn Baur gathered at The Church of the Village here in New York City to celebrate her memory.

Bernie Williams – who Lori befriended as an Honorary Breast Cancer Awareness Bat Girl for the New York Yankees – played the following rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the services:

In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to either make donations to Lori’s favorite charity, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, or help offset the cost of her funeral and medical expenses.
