Christmas - December 12, 2007
- to me, is memories of putting my parents’ Firestone Christmas LPs on the hi-fi. I don’t honestly know how these came to be in our possession – a free LP with a set of 4 white-walled radials, I suppose. Perhaps when you get your snow-tires put on at the shop, you picked up that year’s LP for $3.99 or there-abouts. Whatever the case, the music contained with-in the vinyl grooves was syrupy and sugary sweet. Full orchestration, sweeping strings, and if the song did not in fact feature a choir, then the lead singer was backed by one. To my ear, the backing choirs were the same group that backed Ray Charles on his Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music. “Born to Lose”. . . .”O’ Little Town of Bethlehem”. Same same. And I LOVED it!
